7 Worst Bollywood Movies of 2024 That Left A Sour Taste In Our Mouths
Bollywood releases several dozens of movies each month, from many mega-budget films— to small-budget art films. Despite being a thriving industry with almost a century of experience— no trade pandit, film analysts, or producers can predict the elements that can determine the success of a movie. Some films have impressive social media games and still, bomb at the box office, while others compete on a low budget with no promotional activities and still become hits among viewers. And, just like every year, some movies failed to impress the audiences and could be termed ‘Worst Bollywood Movies of 2024’. Here are some of them.
1. Ae Watan Mere Watan
A patriotic period drama about a real-life event from the life of Asha Mehta— a freedom fighter who takes part in the freedom movement through her independent radio station that she secretly runs at her home. She helps the movement by giving out messages and speeches of freedom fighters so that the message can reach all corners of India. Sara Ali Khan was unable to portray the emotions of such a mature woman and many found her expressions and body language quite stiff and theatrical. Even the plot did not do justice to the story and the cause.
2. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan
If you think that this film is somewhat relatable to the 1998 blockbuster hit— you are in for a shock! An action thriller starring two kings of action— Tiger Shroff, and Akshay Kumar promised a lot of thrill. However, the action scenes looked fake, a bit ‘extra’, and stuffed unnecessarily. Neither the film’s dialogues, or the story, nor the action, and action choreography impressed the audiences. Critics gave the movie very low ratings and dismissed it as a ‘wannabe’ action film. What is your take?
3. Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2
This movie with a mere 4.1 IMDb rating could have done better but this dark romance drama did not live up to the audiences’ expectations. The first one showed a CCTV footage kind of videography that made us realize that this could be happening in real life. The second movie focused on the online intimacy and harassment that could rob people of their peace and leave them broken. Some intertwined stories of love, deceit, and heartbreak that happened through the internet— these kinds of web fraud were already seen many times before and there was nothing new in this movie.
4. Ishq Rebound
The sequel of a superhit rom-com that was released almost two decades ago, and therefore there was so much hype around it. Plus, the national crush Rohit Saraf’s presence also added to the chatter. However, despite the first movie having an almost cult classic status— its sequel disappointed the audiences. The movie shows the friendship, love, and breakup happening between four college friends. The storyline belonged to the Stone Age, and despite the new faces performing much better than the ‘The Archies’ star cast— the movie could not live up to its name that was such an OG rom-com film.
5. Ruslaan
A scintillating action thriller about Ruslaan, the son of a powerful terrorist, who works through all obstacles to become something he aspires to be— an undercover agent. The follows a very predictable storyline trying to gain the emotions of people. The typical story of a Muslim boy belonging to a patriotic family going against a non-muslim who is a secret terrorist. Apart from it, Ayush’s weak acting was like the final nail in the coffin.
6. Crakk: Jitega Toh Jiyega
An action sports film with only a 4.7 IMDb rating— this movie had expectations because of the action hero Vidyut Jamwal going against the villain played by Arjun Rampal. Despite them both going through many tough and death-defying stunts— the movie was unable to attract the audience and the film tanked in theatres. The makers were so much disappointed with its performance, that they decided to change the end in the OTT release and cut the last 15 minutes of the movie— removing a shocking twist too.
7. Luv Ki Arrange Marriage
A rom-com with just a 4.7 IMDb rating. The movie is shot in the beautiful location of Orccha, where the film’s story takes place. It is about Luv who falls in love with Ishika, but before their love story takes place— Luv’s father falls in love with Ishika’s mother and a lot of chaos ensues. Even after marriage, the troubles aren’t just gone and their bizarre family dynamics along with complex love stories keep all the characters on their toes. Despite being a rom-com, the love story is lackluster and there are hardly any scenes or dialogues that erupt any laughter.
I hope we don’t get to see much better from Bollywood in 2025.
