Based on Shivaji Sawant’s popular novel, about Chhatrapati Sambhaji, who became the emperor of the Maratha. He took on the might of the Mughal empire, following the footsteps of his father, Chhatrapati Shivaji. He kept his rival Aurangzeb busy in the Deccan as he kept on dealing hard hits on his very large army and ego through his guerrilla tactics until he was sold out by his brother-in-law.
While this movie is the highest-grossing movie in Indian Cinemas this year, it came under fire for inconsistent pacing and weak music, with some accusing it of being overly dramatic and lacking a strong narrative depth. However, the movie got a 7.3/10 rating from IMDB for the effort in trying to highlight an important, historically relevant story.

This movie begins with an eager Vaani who was looking forward to getting married to her lover, Mahesh; however, she wasn’t ready for the big shock that her betrothed was going to reveal to her when he decided to marry another lady strictly for business reasons. The next few months for Vaani were a mesh of heartbreak, depression, and unproductivity, as the once-talented poet couldn’t bring herself to write. Later on, in a job interview, Vaani crosses paths with Krish Kapoor, who is an upcoming musician. Though said to be unstable throughout the whole movie, this new love story begins when Krish finds Vaani’s poem journal and diary downstairs. While it has a good plot to some, others claim that it was grossly over hyped and didn’t deserve the accolades it got.
- Mahavatar Narsimha (247.96 Cr)
This movie delves into the unpreventable nature of Karma and the never-ending battle between light and darkness. The movie starts with Diti, who is the daughter of Daksha, the king-sage, when she committed a sin by defying her sage husband Kashyap. This led to the birth of evil during the holy Satya Yuga, which symbolises how negativity can also seep into and pollute very saintly homes and places. Making a very clear moral statement against ego, greed, and destructive leadership, this movie promoted faith, selflessness, and consideration.
The director, Ashwin Kumar, and his co-writer crafted a wonderful screenplay that fuses mythology with today’s audience and our very peculiar social values.
- War 2 (244.29 Cr)
This sequel is a fabulous comeback by the Yash Raj Spy Universe. Like the prequel War (2019), the film focuses on Kabir and his rivalry with Vikram against the global terrorist network called KALI, operating across India’s borders.
The movie shows how Kabir becomes entangled in a web of double-crosses involving Colonel Luthra’s Daughter, Kavya, his dead mentor, whom he was forced to kill, terrorist plots, and a mission to protect India’s defence leadership. The movie carries with it an “Indian first” patriotic undertone that is fused with humour and drama.
- Kantara: Chapter 1 (222.92 Cr)
This movie traces the origin of the Kantara folklore centuries before the events shown in the 2022 movie. In this powerful prequel, Rishabh Shetty returns as writer, director, and actor to craft a richly detailed period of action and drama that is rooted in the Truly Nadu culture.
Some of the amazing stars in this movie are Rukmini Vasanth as Kanakavathi, Gulshan Devaiah as Kulashekara, Jayaram, who brings sorrow and dignity to King Rajashekara, and Prakash Thuminad, who adds some sense of continuity as Chenna.
This movie showed respect for the Banga Arasa Dynasty traditions. The story leaned away from the man-vs-nature theme to conflicts involving monarchs and enemy tribes who sought divine power. This movie reinforced inclusivity by portraying characters of different faiths being part of the tribal conflicts.
- Housefull 5 (198.41 Cr)
This movie is an interesting attempt by Sajid Nadiadwala, who adds a mystery later to the signature character, unfolding on a luxurious cruise ship where a billionaire’s sudden death sets into motion the search for the real Jolly. The movie is reportedly dull because of the lack of sharp and well-timed quips.
- Raid 2 (179.3 Cr)
This movie follows the familiar Bollywood formula of “same hero, new villain,” but lacks the sense of freshness or creative writing that made the first Raid what it is. This sequel comes as a flimsy continuation of a very sturdy original. It had the viewers gripping their hearts in the 2018 film on a very balanced premise, sharp writing, and a more popular villain (Saurabh Shukla). What we see in this sequel is how it relies more on loud background music and unrealistic heroism.
- Sitaare Zameen Par (166.58 Cr)
This movie was marketed as a sequel to the 2007 classic Sitaare Zameen Par, and repeats the mission of spreading awareness about neurodivergence, but in a more simplistic manner. This story centers on a somewhat disgraced basketball coach who was assigned to train a neurodivergent team as a part of community service. While he plays an arrogant assistant coach who is being forced to reform, his transformation didn’t come as a shock to the audience because Khan’s character always learns the right lesson.
