South Indian cinema industry creates some larger-than-life movies, while others are famous for their realistic storytelling style. The best way to entertain yourself in a ‘paisa-vasool’ manner is to watch some fantastic South Indian movies! Yup, this year will bring the sequels of blockbuster movies like Pushpa and Kantara, but many new movies could prove to become more popular than these! Here are some of the best South Indian Movies releasing in February, and don’t forget to mark your calendar.
1. Iyer in Arabia | Malayalam | 2 February
A comedy entertainer movie directed by M.A Nishad is a Malayalam language entertainer that was also earlier named Iyer In Dubai. The movie is expected to relate to many NRIs trying to make a living in Middle Eastern countries. While the movie’s plot is not yet revealed, it has a talented star cast that includes Shine Tom Chacko, Durga Krishna, and Dhyan Sreenivasan among others.
2. Lal Salaam | Tamil | 9 February
A much-anticipated sports thriller, this movie is about cricket fever and communism that happens in India. Apart from the plot, the fans are also excited about the star cast that includes superstars Rajinikanth, Vishnu Vishal, and Vikranth. Even Kapil Dev is making a cameo appearance in the movie! Wish to see the movie soon.
3. Ondu Sarala Prema Kathe | Kannada | 8 February
It is a Kannada-language romance drama series that is highly anticipated by the audiences as their favorite actors Sadhu Kokila, Rajesh Nataranga, Vinay Rajkumar, and Aruna Balraj are playing prominent roles in the movie. The movie directed by Suni is going to be released on Valentine’s Month and spread more love. Not much of the story is revealed yet- so be ready for a surprise!
4. Yatra 2 | Telugu | 8 February
It is a biographical history drama about the life story of the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, the late Shri YS Rajsekhara Reddy. Written and directed by Mahi V. Raghav, the movie stars some big names in the Telugu film industry including Jiiva, Mamootty, and Mahesh Majhrekar among others. Interestingly, while most biographies on political leaders are made from the point of view of struggles, Yatra 2 highlighted his emotional journey and showed his human side more than just the leader that the world knew.
5. Eagle | Telugu | 9 February
Eagle is an action thriller movie which is directed by Karthik Gattamneni ( Surya Vs. Surya fame). You know the movie is going to be a full-fledged masala Tollywood entertainer when Ravi Teja is the main lead. The film will show him in the role of a ruthless assassin on a serious mission. The police and every gangsta out there want to catch this man and stop him- but they can’t because he also operates in Germany, Turkey, and Japan- a tough nut to crack! It could be one of those blockbuster hits.
6. Bramayugam: The Age of Madness | Malayalam | 15 February
It is a Malayalam language horror thriller flick for all the horror lovers out there! The movie revolves around a Paanan caste young man who is living in the old-age Kerela and sings folklore for a living. He somehow manages to free himself from the clutches of the slave industry, only to land himself in the middle of a weird and eerie trade. It is an era where ‘tantra-mantra’ is considered normal and black magic might also be a part of everybody’s life. So, what will happen to this man who is trapped in another such ‘evil’ practice?
7. Vadakkupatti Ramasamy | Tamil | February 2
A fantasy sci-fi drama movie that is also inspired by a real-life incident that happened in a small South Indian village in the 60s-70s era. The movie starring Santhanam Neelamegam, Megha Akash, and Nizhalgal Ravi is about a man who cons the innocent people of a village and exports money by playing on their superstitions. It will show some fantasy elements, the drama that this conman plays, and a lot of comedy also to keep the movie light-hearted. Sounds like a must-watch film, right?
